Judicial Corruption in Sierra Leone: Magistrate Lloyd Jusu Continues to Serve Injustice in Bo

Sierra Leone has become a real jungle, survival of the fittest. Those with political connections and money are the fittest and can do unto others as they wish. With their political connections and money, the judicial system is at their beck and call. This is very much so in the Southern Sierra Leone Magistrate Court system, where Lloyd Jusu is hard at work serving injustice on poor people at the request of wicked, rich, corrupt, and politically connected individuals.

A case in point

A man called Mohamed Lamin Turay (who is also known by many nicknames, including Crazy Medo and Kamoh) has recently ordered the incarceration of one of his distant relatives, Mr. Sulaiman Mansaray of the village of Tuba, Sembehun 17. Mr. Mansaray has been locked up in maximum security prison without any due process of the law. There was no hearing and no warrant.

Mohamed Lamin Turay, along with his cousin Abdurahman Foday Kamara who serves as his informant and co-scammer, showed up at the home of Mr. Mansaray with a policeman, then arrested Mr. Mansaray, and hauled him directly to prison where his family has been refused visits for nearly one week now. Yes, an ordinary citizen has such powers in Sierra Leone as long as he has the connections.

We have been informed that Mohamed Lamin Turay is well connected to politicians in the previous and current governments; that he has strong ties to Victor Foe, former vice president, Kanja Sesay, current minister of energy, and Dr. Alpha Wurie, current minister of tertiary education, to name a few. Furthermore, Mohamed Lamin is said to be helped by his informant/partner in crimes, and cousin Abdurahman Foday Kamara, who happens to be good friends with Magistrate Lloyd Jusu who is the boyfriend of Abdulrahman Kamara’s sisters.

The problem

Sometime in 2021 or thereabout, Mohamed Lamin is reported to have acquired hundreds of bags of flour that had expired and discarded. He stored the expired loot in a secret location in Bo City.

He then recruited some of his distant relatives to help distribute the flour to market women and others to sell in Bo City. He told his culprits that he was giving them the bags of flour as loans to the sellers who must sell and pay him in full.

The people who fell for Mohamed Lamin’s scam would soon realize they could not sell the flour, as the product showed decay once the bags were opened.

Each person that tried to return the bag of flour to Mohamed Lamin was told she or he had to pay the total cost of the flour. That led Mohamed Lamin to use his political and judicial connections to arrest and jail several poor women and men in Bo.

One of his victims, a poor struggling single mother, reported having to sell the small house she lived in with her children, just to pay Mohamed Lamin and avoid long prison term away from her children.  But Mohamed Lamin continued asking her for more money after that until someone got a lawyer to help her close the bogus case. Such victims have no access to lawyers and end up serving long prison terms and spending a lot of money.

Mr. Sulaiman Mansaray who happens to be a distant relative of Mohamed Lamin Turay was also deceived and recruited into the illegal flour business.

Mr. Mansaray’s crime, as alleged by Mohamed Lamin Turay, is that he distributed the flour, and alleged that Mr. Mansaray had also collected money from the victims. As part of his task in Mohamed Lamin Turay’s business, Mr. Mansaray helped find many of the women who received bags of rotten flour that they could not sell. Mr. Mansaray and another relative, Mr. Sannoh were also given the task of distributing the flour to the women, upon Mohamed Lamin Turay’s approval. According to Mohamed Lamin Turay, Mr. Mansaray and Mr. Sannoh became liable for the victims’ debts when victims could not sell or pay for the flour. Mr. Sannoh has also faced arrest by Mohamed Lamin and payments to him.

Mohamed Lamin Turay is enriching himself through such scams, with the help of the Bo police department and Magistrate Lloyd Jusu, who get part of the money he is extorting from the victims of his scams.

It is clear that Mohamed Lamin Turay is a crimal that should be prosecuted for endangering the public with expired food. Instead, he is able to turn his victims into culprits with the help of his connections to politicians, police, and the judiciary.

AS SIERRA LEONEANS, WE  SHOULD ALL BE CONCERNED, AS ANYONE COULD BECOME A VICTIM OF SUCH CHARLATANS LIKE MOHAMED LAMIN TURAY AND THE CORRUPT POLICE AND JUDICIARY WHO ARE SERVING INJUSTICES ON VULNERABLE CITIZENS IN SIERRA LEONE EVERY DAY!!
